Tania Major Studio
Tania Major is a Kokoberra artist from Kowanyama, Cape York, whose work bridges activism, culture and Country. Known for her vivid, contemporary style and environmental sculptures, Tania’s art reflects deep ties to the land, seasonal change and the strength of her people.
Through bold paintings, meaningful storytelling and repurposed materials, she shares powerful insights from Far North Queensland, amplifying Indigenous knowledge, identity and sustainability through every piece.

WHEN RAIN FALLS,
WHEN EARTH SLEEPS
The exhibition, Kowanyama When Rain Falls, When Earth Sleeps,
is the first solo exhibition by Tania Major at Cairns Art Gallery. Enabled through the Gallery’s Artists Fellowship in partnership with the Cairns RSL Club, Major’s works explore the profound connection she holds to her ancestral Country of Kowanyama on Cape York Peninsula.
